10Km Project on it's way

Good day to all.

On the 27th of May 2010, we had the first 10km 2010 project meeting.  We started with the allocation of responsibilities to the various people who indicated their area of expertise.  If you would like to be part of the team and have something to add, contact us asap.

Our plan is to launch the weekend of the World Space Week which falls on the 9th of October 2010.  This gives us very little time but with many items in progress we can make it work!

Marjo will be sponsoring the motor and other odds and ends.

Erik will sponsor R2000 toward the propellant.

Johann will sponsor the recovery system and various airframe components.

Thank you to everyone who is donating to this project.  Anything from money to time is needed.

For more information, watch the forum closely as we will be discussing everything here.  Whether it will be private or public has not been decided yet.  For now, it's public.

Ad astra, per aspera!  (Arocket's motto but it applies here)

Re: 10Km Project on it's way

K cool, as mentioned I'm in with the use of my Nokia N95 8GB for onboard filming from the rocket. But as from Monday 31 May till the end of the World Cup I'll be too busy filming the WC. I'll keep myself updated with developments though.

Bryan Green expressed some knowledge and interest about using the N95, so, Bryan, or Johann, just let me know when you want to get it in hand to start with figuring out fitment and stuff.

On this note, it may be of interest to actually approach Nokia SA about the project and see about sponsorship... or should we just keep this a completely private initiative? On sponsorship, a project like this can generate a lot of interest, companies like Kulula and Nando's come to mind as potential sponsors, so long as they don't end up interfering too much.

I can work on this kind of stuff after the WC if the group thinks it's a good idea? That way we can throw around ideas, experiment, create, and eventually launch, while someone else pays :-)

Thanks Steve, yes we are looking for sponsors.  In the past I have found it a daunting task with most corporates budgeting way ahead of time for these things.  Most companies told me to talk to them a year of more before an event.  As I told Erik at the meeting, to ask is to know.  We may get lucky!

BTW: Erik has a friend who is eager to use his UAV for aerial footage of the launch and helping with locating the rocket after recovery.  The project is getting very interesting very quickly!

Thanks

Re: 10Km Project on it's way

Johan,
This good news. Is it possible for W.E.R.K. to enter their own rocket for this project as previosly ?

Re: 10Km Project on it's way

Hi Frans,

yes, the plan is to let as many teams participate as possible.  This way we can make it an event that will get the most publicity.  Each team entered will pay a small fee to cover things like the porta-loo etc.  We will have to confirm the costs and will let the teams know.

Are you planning something similar to 2007?

Re: 10Km Project on it's way

Sounds good!  We are not trying the two-stage approach this year but a single stage rocket of 5m.  It's called Arrow10 and the name says it all!

Re: 10Km Project on it's way

Hi all

Its been a while since i logged in on the forum but iv'e been following the progress of the 10km project and lets get down to bussiness here.

the on board filming should be done by one of the cameras one can buy at hobbyking.com they are cheap and have a high frame ate to go with the price (30fps) and as they say on the website the use a high speed memory card to record flight on the camera..

Thats my pinion because i used my cell phone in recording the flight of my (Orion) rocket and it looked good for the first time although the sound is much smoother than the video is..

We all strive for perfection...but we fly for fun
